Fun Out Of The House Family Activites?

What are some fun family things I can do with my 1 year old daughter outside of the house (doesn’t need to be outdoors tho). We are tired of going to the library and park. The only thing I can think of as an example of what I’m looking for is doing things like strawberry picking (I live in a suburban area in NJ). Can you help me think of some ideas?

Fun Summer Activities to Do Together or With Their Friends for the Self Confident Parent – Part1

Fun Summer Activities To Do Together or With Their Friends for the Self Confident Parent – Part 1

“I’m bored!” “I have nothing to do!” “What should I do now?”

Are these some of the things you are hearing or have heard from your child or children this summer? Are you running out of things to do? Here are some fun activities that you can do with your kids. You can even have your kids invite friends and do these activities together.

But first, here is something to think about. A girlfriend of mine had a very good suggestion that will prevent your child from complaining about being bored. She sends them to the refrigerator and taped to the door is a list of chores that she has written down for them to do, when they complain that they are bored. Needless to say, her children never complain about being bored.

As a self confident parent, if you are looking for some things that are actually fun to do, here are a couple of great activities or ideas:

1) Do a craft project together. This is one of my favorites when my kids were younger. You can buy a craft kit or make up your own project, if you are crafty. One of the projects my kids liked to do was to cut out paper snowflakes. Another one was to figure out different ways to fold airplanes and find out which way flew the best. We would also paint wooden cut outs (that I had purchased from a craft store), for instance, gingerbread men during the holidays. There are all sorts of kits that you can buy from a craft store, like Michael’s Arts and Crafts or JoAnn’s Fabric store. Another very simple idea, that I used to do when we had a play group and it was my turn to host, was to take a walk. We would pick up leaves, flowers, etc. We then bring them back and paste them on a page to make a picture. We have also bought the kit to make permanent plates, cups, and bowls. After you order the kit, have your child draw a picture (or if they are very young, you can write their name, date, and trace their hand) with their markers on a special piece of paper. You then send it back to the company who will mail it back with their artwork on a plate or bowl. (For pictures on a cup, the picture is inserted after it is drawn and is not sent in.) In fact, to this day, we still use those plates for our meals.

2) Bake cookies or a cake. My kids loved to help me stir the dough and then when the cookies were done baking, they got to frost and decorate them with sprinkles. A fun thing to do is to make up a story about your decorated cookie before you could eat it. Another great idea, which I usually use at my children’s birthdays, is to buy store bought cookie dough, in the refrigerated section. I usually take a chocolate chip cookie dough and a sugar cookie dough, and press them down on to two pizza baking sheet. I spread the cookie dough to the edges of the baking sheet until it looks like a pizza. Then bake it. After it is cooled, I have my child spread the frosting of their choice and then decorate it with different colored sprinkles and colored icing (from the store and in the ready make tubes). He has a blast. We then add candles to it. Another great idea, is to buy fancy molds. I have, for in-stance, the football stadium Nordicware mold. After the cake it baked, they like to sprinkle different colored sprinkles in the inside of the stadium to look like fans in the stadium.

3) Create memory books. You can buy inexpensive or expensive photo albums. You can give each child their own or share a book and make a family album. Next have your child cut out their favorite pictures from magazines or give them copies of their favorite photos. Use acid-free glue, double stick tape, or special double sided photo stickers to stick the pictures on to their books. Then decorate the pages with acid-free stickers, markers, stamped images, or cut outs. Another great idea is to make dream journals or wishing boards. You cut out things that they want, from weekly ads or magazines, and paste them onto a poster board. You can have them cut out pictures of people that they want to be, for instance, a singer, a dancer, a football or basketball player, a golfer, a doctor, etc. or cut out pictures of their dream house, etc. They can cut out places that they would like to visit. The possibilities are endless. Or you can make a book with a spiral bound notebook and decorate the cover or buy a notebook binder and decorate the cover. Then have your child write down their favorite jokes poems, or memories. You can even copy the jokes or poems and then cut and paste them into their books. You can make autograph books. You take a book and dec-orate it. You then have their friends or relatives write little notes to them or you can start writing little notes to them on a weekly or daily basis. You can write down your wishes, dreams, or special memories of them down.

Anyway, these are just a couple of fun activities that you and your child or children can do with you or their friends that will help foster their self confidence and yours as a self con-fident parent. Have fun!! Have a great summer!

Georgetown Texas Real Estate: Communities for the Active Senior

The secret is out, U.S. News has profiled Georgetown, Texas as one of the best places to retire. To current residents, this is no surprise. Nestled in beautiful Texas Hill country, centered over the San Gabriel River, Georgetown is certainly a beautiful place to retire. Residents enjoy long warm summers and mild winters, and southern hospitality only adds to its comfort. Perhaps what makes Georgetown so attractive however, are the superior real estate opportunities. A number of attractive retirement communities with state-of-the-art amenities have sprung up, and the town boasts an active community.

There are several Georgetown, Texas, homes for sale in some fantastic age-restricted communities:

Heritage Oaks: Active adults 55 and up can enjoy 118 acres of rolling terrain in this community by Jimmy Jacobs Custom Homes. It offers single-family homes from 1400-2000 square feet priced from the high 100’s. Just opened is an 8,200 square foot clubhouse featuring a 24-hour fitness center, grand ballroom, game room, library, and outdoor BBQ area.

Texas Traditions is the original retirement community by Jimmy Jacobs Custom Homes. Texas Traditions is more established, with homes dating back to 1999. They are in the final stages of development and have a few homes still available. Remaining single-family homes are priced from $230,000.

Sun City Georgetown is arguably the premiere retirement community in Georgetown. Residents have access to championship golf courses, swimming pools, walking trails, tennis courts, a fitness center, art studios, a computer lab, and more. Sun City is currently expanding their amenities and will introduce a new sports and activities complex (with an indoor track and lap pool) along with Sun City Park – featuring a softball field, dog park, and fishing pond. Current homes on the market range in price from $135,000 to 385,00 (two and three bedrooms anywhere from 1,300 to 2,700 square feet) and custom homes are also available.

River Bend: This is a senior community with homes priced from the mid $100′s. An ideal location and low HOA fees make this an attractive and economical alternative to Sun City.

Oaks at Wildwood offers two and three-bedroom, single-story, maintenance-free condo style homes from the high $100s. The clubhouse features a heated pool and fitness center and monthly activites foster community.

Mariposa Apartment Homes offers active seniors the opportunity to rent instead of own. One and two-bedroom apartments or independent cottages are available starting at $612 a month. The clubhouse facility features a pool, exercise studio, game room, movie theater, salon, and more.

While these housing communities certainly offer a lot in the way of things to do, there is no shortage of activities available in Georgetown. For starters, there are 14 parks, five city golf courses, 40 religious centers, and a number of historical sites. Lake Georgetown and the San Gabriel river offer the chance for water sports, camping, or simply relaxing by the water. Continuing education can be found at Southwestern University, Sun City’s Senior University, and nearby University of Texas at Austin. The Georgetown Hospital, Southwestern University, Habitat for Humanity, and local school and churches all offer opportunities for the volunteer.

It’s easy to see why Georgetown is considered the “Retirement Capitol of Texas.” In addition to boasting a wealth of local activities, Georgetown is host to some of the best active adult communities in the nation. It has experience rapid growth in the last few years due to its appeal to the active senior, but its not too late to take advantage of Georgetown, Texas real estate and everything the town has to offer.

Getting People to Believe in your Fundraising Activities

<a title=School fundraising at ProFund! Href=http://www.golfmarathonman.com/school_fundraising.html>School fundraising</a> often gets a lot of grumblers when parents bring the sign up sheet with them to work year after year. The same relatives are hit up each season, and friends of the family are bombarded. However, a more positive way to increase participation and excitement for any <a title=Fundraising activities at ProFund! Href=http://www.golfmarathonman.com/fundraising_activities.html>fundraising activities</a> should be to increase the passion for and spirit in the event, regardless of the cause.

If you are a nonprofit trying to raise money, you need to create awareness for the cause and also instill passion and desire into your donors. People are going to give money to things that they have been impacted by – such as a loved one dying of a specific disease, surviving cancer or another illness themselves or being impacted in another way by the specific cause or event. You need to reach out to people in ways they are going to understand and respond to; you need to get their empathy to get their donations.

When looking at school fundraisers increasing school spirit is a great way to start when trying to raise more money. You need and want people to be excited about your school so that they will want to invest in the students and the future of the school. Further, if students are really excited about the events they are involved in, the support they are receiving at school and the spirit of the school, they are going to be much more emphatic when talking about their fundraisers; they are going to want to sell to people because it is exciting.

Along with school spirit, you should choose events that are going to get people excited. A yearly carnival might be a great idea. It is a great way to gather the community and show off the school and the spirit of the school. Passion is contagious. If you bring people in and show them your excitement they are going to want to be a part of it. Many times people can’t help but want to get involved because of the feeling of being part of something they love.

Nothing quite beats a young child coming to the door or waiting for you outside the retail store with a big smile on their face. While you may find it gets tiring, you can’t help but feel their excitement when they tell you their story. You have to admit that you can tell when a child is excited about what they are doing and when they are unhappy to be selling.

The key to a successful fundraising campaign for any organization is going to be, not only increasing awareness, but also increasing passion and excitement for the organization, event or cause. For schools, an increase in school spirit will go a long way – not only for school morale and community participation, but also for fundraising efforts as well. Make people want to spend their money because they can’t help it. Whether through volunteer efforts or with money, you will get people to help and become a part of your organization if they believe in it. Become contagious. While this isn’t normally a good thing, it is a winning option for fundraisers no matter the cause.

Homeschooling: Extra Curricular Activites For College-Bound Homeschoolers

Concerned about extra-curriculars for your homeschooling child? If you plan to continue homeschooling through high school, you may have considered your options for how to address sports, clubs, graduation, newspaper club, etc.

Before trying to reinvent the wheel, check out your local homeschool support groups to learn about homeschool activities they may have already established. Many groups offer homeschool sports teams, homeschool drama clubs, homeschool choirs, homeschool debate teams, etc. Homeschoolers also often establish teams to compete in national math and science competitions.

But if you are starting from scratch, be sure to spend some time organizing, pulling people together who can help, and setting up your plan of attack before you jump. This will help to avoid the frustrations that so often result in burnout and the end of a great idea.

With technology where it is today, homeschooling activities are easy to coordinate and you can create a sense of community among homeschool students with just the click of a button. Better yet, you can have a newspaper or homeschool literary club with contributing members from all around the world.

And as technology continues to make our world smaller, look ahead to ways you can use the developments to your homeschooler’s advantage.

Some great places to start are activities that add that element of “setting themselves apart” to your child’s transcript. Homeschool activities list.

Honor society-the National Honor Society won’t admit homeschoolers, but a home school honor society exists if you’re willing to get one going in your community. Check out homeeducationpartnership.com for Eta Sigma Alpha Honor Society.

Yearbook staff-are you part of a homeschool group? Take your own pictures and allow your kids to put together a ‘yearbook.” A yearbook creates lasting memories and gives your child that sense of belonging. With digital photos and on-line publishing options, designing and printing a yearbook is now easy! There are a number of other on-line programs (such as blurb.com and shutterfly.com that will allow your group to work from any computer with an Internet connection to contribute to your yearbook.

Literary journal-If you have a writer in the family, what better way to showcase his or her abilities than to write for a literary journal. Check out narrowroadpublishing.com for your opportunity to contribute to a homeschool literary journal.

Newspaper-If your student is interested in writing or journalism, check into your local smaller newspapers. When I was in high school, I was able to secure a weekly column in our local newspaper where I had the opportunity to write for an audience every week. It was a terrific experience that forced me to think critically about the events around me and to do my research before writing my article. I am so grateful for my parents’ confidence in me and encouragement to pursue my interests in ways that were meaningful.

Sports-check with your local homeschool support groups. Many areas have homeschool sports team that compete against one another or against smaller private schools in the area. Be sure to also look in to community sports and premier sports clubs in your area.

If you have an aspiring athlete, your local premier sports clubs are one great avenue as many colleges and universities do their recruiting from premier teams and tournaments.

In many states, public schools will allow homeschoolers to participate in sports-some require your child to attend at least one class; others allow them to play without attending. Often private schools welcome the opportunity to add homeschoolers to their team rosters as well.

Don’t assume your child will be unable to play his or her sport on an organized and competitive team. Take the time to pursue your options. We have seen many homeschool students go on to college on athletic scholarships as a result of a diligent and committed parent.

Choir-many areas have local choirs or chorus opportunities. My homeschool daughter joined the local public school chorus to gain experience and now can choose to also participate with our county chorus or a local music school choir.

Band-another one where there can be many opportunities. Look into your local 4-H club, a local music school, private and public schools in the area, or a county band. Don’t hesitate to check into your church band as well. Often churches forget to recruit young members, but welcome them enthusiastically.

Leadership-leadership comes in many forms. If you do not have a homeschool support group nearby, find other ways for your child to take on leadership roles. As a high school student, I had the opportunity to start a children’s choir in my church, to teach Sunday School, and to serve as an assistant softball coach through our community sports organization. These were all leadership activities that not only looked great on a college application, but also served to build my character and confidence in my own abilities. And working with younger children is an ideal way to build leadership skills in a child who is otherwise fairly introverted.

Student Government-A student who participates in student government is one who is seen as a leader. In a school setting, this individual helps organize student events, works with school leadership to make changes or improvements in the school, finds ways for the student body to make a difference in the community, and more. You can achieve this same valuable experience with a homeschool support group. And it looks fantastic on a college application. Have your homeschool student government association take charge of planning field trips, finding ministry opportunities, organizing events . . . your kids can do an outstanding job of this and lift some of the burden from your shoulders.

Another fantastic way to provide student government experience is through the Student Governmental Affairs program (sgap.com). With this program, your student receives a monthly legislative newsletter, The Student Forum, which contains nonpartisan, non-political, factual information about issues under discussion in Congress. The highlighted topics are geared to the interests of teenagers and are age-appropriate in both the material presented and writing style. I used this material as a foundation for my student government class with great success. My students would discuss and debate the issues and express their opinions to their elected officials. It was inspiring and opened their eyes to the incredible amount of legislation that is enacted into law every month in this country. Two of those kids have now gone on to college to study political science-one I am convinced will someday serve as our president!

There are so many unmentioned activities not listed here. Drama, chess, science, photography, foreign language, environmental, nursing, math clubs-you name it, you can create it (even with just two members). If your child has a specific interest, find someone willing to join them and start your own club.

With most of these suggestions come tremendous opportunities for scholarship funding. Be sure to question the financial aid office at the colleges and universities you are considering to learn more about the scholarships they offer to students who have been involved in these extra-curricular activities.

How Do I Juggle Extracurricular Activites, School, Friends And Family All At Once?

I’m not gonna lie, I’m a busy person. I’ve joined many extracurriculars this year hoping that I could handle it and schoolwork. Needless to say, it clashes with my procrastinating ways. I’ve been more stressed, irritated, upset, and tired this past month than I have in my past school years! How can I resolve this? Do I need to quit an extracurricular? If you have any tips on procrastinating less and handling stress, I’d appreciate it. Thanks.
