The Beginnings Of Disney Movies

Walt Disney’s signature contracting him to the Alice Comedies on October 16th 1923 was the foundation of the “Disney Company” previously known as Disney Brothers Cartoon Studio. Walt had decided to take up an offer from his brother Roy Oliver Disney to join him in Hollywood from Kansas City. Walt brought with him his last one-reeler named “Alice in Wonderland” which combined live action with animation kick starting the Alice Comedies.

The Disney Company’s first Alice Comedy named “Alice’s Day at Sea” was released in 1924 before at the suggestion of Roy, the Disney Company was renamed Walt Disney Studio in 1926. The Alice series ended in 1927 giving way for the very first cartoon “Oswald the Lucky Rabbit”.

Next Mortimer Mouse created by Disney and Iwerks failed to find a distributor, however with prompting from Lillie Belle it was decided to cast Mortimer in the first sound animated film Steamboat Willie. Mortimer soon became Mickey and as they say the rest is history.

After the US entered the war, ninety-four percent of Disney’s studio facilities were taken over by the military for work on training films for the armed services, health films for the general public, and short propaganda pieces like Der Fuhrer’s Face.

The cheaply produced Dumbo made some money for the studio, but Bambi finally released in 1942, also bombed on its initial release. For the next several years, the studio focused on shorts and compilation films. It was not until the late forties that they had recovered enough to start concentrating on feature films again. Cinderella was released in 1950, followed by Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, and Sleeping Beauty.

During the Fabulous Fifties, the studio had branched out into nature documentaries, live action features such as Treasure Island and 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, and television. They were handling their own distribution through their new subsidiary, Buena Vista Distribution. By the end of the decade, the Disney Empire was a major success, and Walt Disney Productions had become the world’s leading purveyor and innovator of “family entertainment”.

Disney Channel is the one of America’s most successful children channel. Most of its programs are original series and movies as well that are promoted mostly to children. They were just the few mice that growled in their den.

By 1995, the Disney Channel has been hitting an astonishing 8 million audiences across the continental United States. Also, this time Disney began managing musical specials, which showcased N’ Sync, Backstreet Boys, M2M band, B*Witched and a lot more.

The History of Disney World’s Magic Kingdom

This theme park opened on the 1st of October, in the year 1971. It has become prominent over the years, because it alone was recognized to be the only place to see in the large complex of the Walt Disney World Resort. Thus, people came to know this single park as Disney World. However, in 1982, Epcot Theme Park was added, followed in succession with the addition of two other destinations: the Disney-MGM Studios (1989) and Disney’s Animal Kingdom (1998). It’s good to note that Disney World’s Magic Kingdom bears a significant resemblance to the Disneyland version in California, except that the Florida version is situated on a far larger area.

The best season to visit WDW’s Magic Kingdom is from Labor Day until Thanksgiving. And from mid-February until mid-March (President’s Day to Spring Break). Normally, the best day to go is any day except Fridays and Saturdays (as locals tend to increase the population significantly on those days). For a tip, it is wise to arrive earlier than the opening time in order to get in first, before the build up of the lines. Doing this, you may get to visit more popular attractions without the long lines. In addition, this allows you to avoid rushing through the parks at a pace that tends to wear most travellers out quickly.

Additionally, when you buy tickets, try not to do so on site. Meaning, book them in advance so that you may receive them earlier. It’s a significant loss of time if you have to line up with the masses at the ticket booths. On top of that, you generally save a bit of extra money by getting them early.

Since 2005, the Magic Your Way ticket was introduced to help ticket buyers eliminate the hustles of ticket buying. Tickets are also available in local clubs (such as AAA), activity offices and Disney Stores. If you are bringing kids with you, then it is best to first visit the Hundred-Acre Wood-themed play area designed specifically for toddlers and children. It is located in Fantasyland. Fantasyland has more to offer for children, and normally the lines for these rides build up signifcantly later in the day. It would be wise for attractions like Peter Pan and Dumbo to be your first stop (the lines get horrible as the day progresses, and Dumbo doesn’t move guests through as fast as most rides).

To better enjoy your trip, it is advisable that you plan an itinerary. Some people don’t like rigid schedules (myself included), so you may be better suited getting a basic plan, and improvising on the details from there. Going prepared will save you tons of time and frustration…time better spent enjoying your vacation!

No trip to Disney World would be complete without a visit to the Magic Kingdom. Epcot Center came on the Disney World scene in 1982. In times past, it was considered to be an adult park, but even now the kids that walk through this theme park can have a blast. One of the things that cater to the youngsters are the kidcot stations that you can find at every venue. Children are able to create free souvenirs to take home with them. You can also find Disney characters throughout Epcot Center. This theme park consists of two main areas, World Showcase and Future World. Spaceship Earth traces the history of communication.

You will surely want to go on Soarin, the most popular ride in Epcot. If you enjoyed The Lion King, you are certain to enjoy the Circle of Life film that is hosted by Simba, Timon and Pumba. The third theme park to visit in Disney World is Disney’s Hollywood Studios. It officially opened on May 1, 1989, just beating out Universal Studios which opened the very next year. At the time that this theme park opened, the only attractions were The Backlot Tour, Great Movie Ride, Sounds Dangerous and the Magic of Disney Animation. Later that year Indiana Jones Stunt Spectacular was added as an attraction. The very next year Sorcery in the Sky, an evening fireworks show made its debut. In 1994, Twilight Zone Tower of Terror made its mark on this theme park.

Be sure to go on the Rock n Roll Coaster, another attraction that was added in 1999. If you like live performances, you will not want to miss the stage show Beauty and the Beast. The one downer to this theme park is that many of the attractions and shows are a bit long and will make some of the kids squirm in their seats adults included.

The newest theme park to hit Disney World was Disney’s Animal Kingdom which opened on April 22, 1998. This park consists of 500 acres and is home to approximately 1,700 animals that represent about 250 different species. You will not want to miss riding on the Kilimanjaro Safari which will take you through the African Savannah. However, you will probably be traveling too fast to be able to get any really good pictures of the animals. There you have it a bird’s eye view of Disney World. With a little forethought and planning, this could possibly be your best Disney vacation ever.
