Learn All About Science – the Fun and Easy Way

Learn All About Science – the Fun and Easy Way

by Mort Barish

Article word count: 540

Play games with friends and learn a scientific principle at the same time. More fun than video games and easier than text books or classroom studies.

Learning all about science in the classroom and by reading text books can be really difficult and tedious and boring. But it doesn’t have to be that way. There is a new and exciting method to learn scientific principles and best of all it’s free. Yes you can learn more about physics, and chemistry and biology and all of the other interesting sciences with these free sixteen games and experiments made into contests and challenges that you can experience with your friends. What great stuff for science fair projects, ideas and experiments.

The science of static electricity can be learned in one of these free games by challenging your friends to see whose balloon will stick to the wall for the longest period of time before falling to the floor. This static electricity is generated by rubbing a balloon against your clothing. It becomes a lot of fun when you are competing against several other people to see whose balloon sticks the longest.

You can learn about your sense of touch, taste and smell with another fascinating experiment by putting on blindfolds and trying to see if you can discern juices, fruits, and vegetables. This experiment becomes a real challenge when you are competing against three or four friends to see if you can do better than they can.

Learning about how fire needs oxygen to exist is graphically demonstrated in another whiz- bang experiment by placing a glass over a lit candle and seeing how long it takes for your candle to go out compared to the three or four others that you are competing with.

Guessing whether the coin will come up heads or tails is a great challenge to help determine whether you or any of your playmates have extra-sensory perception.

Parents and teachers are always looking for ways to keep children away from the TV set with other forms of entertainment. These free sixteen experiments and challenges are much more fun than anything on TV and the students will learn a scientific fact with each game. Any number can play these games, and they are good for indoors or outdoors. The materials needed to play have practically no cost and are items usually found around the house. One 4th grade teacher recently said “I wish all of my students participated in these contests with their friends instead of watching television. They really enjoy the challenge and they all seem to learn so much so quickly and easily”. A parent of three elementary school age children agreed and was quoted as saying “What a blessing these experiments have been. The kids spend so many fewer hours in front of the television set, they are learning a lot about science, and I can hear the screams and yells of excitement every time they get involved”.

These 16 science teaching games are available free when you purchase any one of 300 award winning science fair projects from www.terimore.com

Video Games And Prejudiced Stereotypes

I enjoy playing computer games and video games, although I am not a teenager, and even further from being a child – yet according to many people, I am highly likely to be a violent, irresponsible, society hating thug with no concern for the welfare of other people or the environment, and with a high chance of ending up either dead or in jail. Surprisingly, I am none of the above, and am actually a perfectly sane, perfectly sociable, intelligent professional who does a great deal for charity and has a family and two dogs. Statistics – they’re always guaranteed to be wrong 67% of the time. Like that one.

The thing is, it is very easy for people to jump on to a popular bandwagon and assume that anyone who has a fascination with, or simple enjoyment of, computer games or video games which involve one character or characters killing or conquering another, must have an unhealthy tendency towards violence and that this will become so engrained within their psyche that, sooner or later, they’re going to lurch down the street armed with a machete, an evil grin and a blood stained hooded anorak.

In fact, not only is violent crime decreasing quite considerably and quite quickly, but at the same time, the number of video games available, and the number being bought and presumably played, is increasing. How does that work out then? If the use of the games is on the increase, it would follow, according to popular assumption and argument, that violent crime should also increase.

The problem is, that time and again it has been shown that playing video games or computer games does no more harm to you than watching television or reading books. The real issues and problems with any social makeup or lack of morals lie with the upbringing of a child, with the family and its own morals and consistencies. Computer games cannot be blamed for society’s general lack of understanding of how to tackle the issue of crime.

Granted, there are some very violent games on the market today, and personally, I tend not to favor them as much, and in most cases these games have age restrictions on them. Although this is supposed to prevent children from seeing or playing these games, there is no such check carried out if bought online, second hand, passed down from an older sibling or friend, and even many parents don’t check the labels in the first place.

As with anything in life, computer and video games have to be used in moderation, and anyone who becomes unhealthily absorbed or obsessed with a game is doing no good to themselves in any case – such an addiction needs to be identified and dealt with early. But just because some children enjoy spending an hour or so each day pretending to be an orc, or a secret agent, or a military leader, there is no reason to assume that they will eventually walk down the high street, completely brainwashed into believing that they really are orcs and that they need to purge the high street of humans. At least, if they do have those thoughts, the cause of the problem lies a lot deeper than in a video game.

A Huskisson Holiday

If you have been dreaming of the quintessential Australian fishing village holiday then a quick trip to Huskisson might be what you are seeking. Located approximately 179 Kilometers from Sydney on the pristine shores of Jervis Bay sits a rustic, friendly experience.

Huskisson forms the typical sleepy holiday resort and fishing village with many natural attractions and services within a short drive. The main street has many cafes and seafood restaurants and the Husky Pub, which forms the social center piece of the town. Here you can sit and wish away your worries whilst sipping a cold beer on the shores of one of Australia’s most pristine marine parks.

The Jervis Bay district was originally inhabited by the Dhurga Aborigines and European exploration did not commence until 1812, around the site which is now known as Nowra. The town remained largely undeveloped until the 1840′s when the soaring wool price formed the need for a large track between it and Sydney. Convicts where sent from the nearby penal colony to cut a road from Nowra to nearby Huskisson to provide transport for the wool. This road later became known as the Wool Road and still remains today.

The Wool road was used to ship the wool to Sydney direct from Jervis Bay rather than subject the markets to the time delay of horse and cart. As a result of these improvements there was much belief in the development of a local economy in Huskisson. Although the town was laid out along with the wool road, it was not to be settled for a further twelve years.

Today Huskisson is a vibrant and friendly community of over 2,000 residents. Its main industries include tourism and operations related to the pristine marine park. Huskisson sports many attractions and local delights including the famous Lady Denham Ferry.

The Lady Denham Museum is one of the premier tourist attractions on the NSW South Coast. The museum documents the rich history of wooden shipbuilding in the town. Shipbuilding was Huskisson’s prime economic activity up until the early 1920′s. In fact almost all of the wooden based Sydney ferries were constructed there.

The diving in Jervis Bay is second to none and provides an excellent location for all experience levels. Some diving locations include black rock, and a sunken World War Two figher plane. With three dive shops located in the main street you will never be without equipment or instruction.

Jervis bay also boasts the White Sands Easter Carnival held at White Sands Park every April. The celebration focuses on the family unit and provides stalls and activites in a fete format. The carnival is comepletely free of entry cost and is an excellent family activity.

The weather in Jervis Bay is variable and its generally best to visit during the summer months. Due to the towns location on the South Coast it is important to note that Weather can change in a moments notice and the area is known for receiving volatile winds. A traveller should always check the relevant forecasts before attempting to reach the town.

Accomodation is generally available in the town during the winter months. In the summer season it can be difficult to obtain lodgings without a booking. The warm weather and faimly demand in the region generally means that you will have trouble finding accomodation without a confirmed booking. The average cost of accomodation is in the $85 – $120 per night range for a comfortable motel style room.

It should be noted that Huskisson is relatively free of crime and is generally noted as being a safe location. Although crime is indeed low, it does suffer from petty youth crime, like many coastal NSW towns. The police presence at night is limited and it is recommended that you do not walk alone at night. Having said that, instances of crime is almost always petty and is not something that a potential visitor should be concerned with.

Jervis Bay and Huskisson can be reached with a variety of means. Rental cars can be obtained in Sydney and it is a short 2.5 hour drive. Train service also connects Nowra with Sydney although a visitor would need to connect with the local bus service to Huskisson.

Huskisson is indeed a friendly and laid back coastal town and is always welcoming to tourists of all nationalities. With the clement weather and myriad of natural attractions Huskisson makes the ideal family location for a much needed weekend break. So why not take the time for a weekend getaway?

It is important to make sure that you allow yourself enough time to get through everything that you want to do when you visit Disney’s Magic Kingdom. Equipment Rental: Strollers, manual wheelchairs, and ECVs can be rented just inside the park.

The Extra Magic Hours program offers guests of the on-property hotel resorts to enter one of the parks an hour earlier than the posted opening time. The Extra Magic Hours program also offers guests of the on-property hotel resorts to spend an extra three hours at the park. Another unique element to Magic Kingdom is that most guests will need to take a monorail or ferry to get from their car to the park.

After purchasing Magic Kingdom Tickets you will find over 48 rides and attractions that will bring fantasy, youth, nostalgia, and most of all magic into play.

The park map lists forty-eight attractions in seven themed “lands. Disney’s Magic Kingdom contains some real “don’t miss” attractions, depending on what age bracket you fall in. Space Mountain, while dated, is still one of the best attractions at the Magic Kingdom.

The Tomorrowland attractions have been designed to give you an opportunity to participate in adventures that are a living blueprint of our future. Adventureland — An exotic mix of jungles, wild animals, pirates and a Middle Eastern bazaar, Adventureland is home to several of the Magic Kingdom’s best-known and best-loved attractions, including Pirates of the Caribbean and Jungle Cruise.

Major attractions include Splash Mountain, a thrilling log ride; Big Thunder Mountain Railroad, a roller coaster ride through an unstable mine; and the ever popular performing bears of Country Bear Jamboree. Major attractions also include Haunted Mansion, with frights from friendly haunts; and the Hall of Presidents, a moving Audio-Animatronics salute to the United States’presidents.

My favourite is Mickey’s PhilharMagic, a 3-D of Disney music and characters; The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, a gentle journey through the Hundred Acre Wood; and Cinderella’s Golden Carrousel, a merry-go-round of mighty steeds.

One of the main things which you may be wondering about is where you should consider eating while you are visiting Disney’s Magic Kingdom and one place that you may want to consider eating while you are at Magic Kingdom is Cinderella’s Royal Table. Crystal Palace is another one of the Magic Kingdom restaurants which you may want to consider eating at.
