GAMEGUIDEDOG’S: 2008 TOP 20 HOTTEST GAME TITLES ALONG WITH THE WALKTHROUGH STRATEGY GUIDES TO HELP YOU PLAY THEM!

1. Command & Conquer: Red Alert 3 (EA; Release date: October 27, 2008) – This computer game is a real-time strategy game that is a continuation of the Command & Conquer series. The Red Alert game series asserts that Albert Einstein designed a time machine and used it for the purposes of traveling back in time to kill Adolf Hitler, thus preventing Nazi Germany from forming and preventing World War II from ever taking place. In this scenario, Joseph Stalin becomes Europe’s main aggressor. Following the events of Red Alert 2, the Soviet Union leadership plans to also travel back in time with a time machine they too have created with the intent to assassinate Albert Einstein following his killing of Hitler, thus placing the Soviet Union in a position of power. Unfortunately, during this mission a terrible mistake is made and a completely different timeline is created that erased all of the events of the previous games thus altering the evolution of technology and creating newer, more advanced technologies such as a super power deemed the Rising Sun. This inevitably fuels a World War between the Soviets, the Allies and the Empire.

2. Fable II  (GameGuideDog.com has the walkthrough guide) – Fable II is a role playing game designed to be played on the Xbox 360 console. It is a sequel to Fable and Fable: The Lost Chapters. Set 500 years after the original Fable, Fable II is an action role-playing game that allows players to live whatever life they decide in a completely open world environment. There is limitless freedom and choice and players can explore many different catacombs, caves, and dungeons in the world of Albion.

3. Fallout 3  (GameGuideDog.com has the walkthrough guide) – Fallout 3 is a PC game and takes place in a post-apocalyptic United States in the year 2277. The character the player chooses is a member of a fallout shelter, Vault 101 that serves Washington, D.C. The character resides with their widower father (voiced by Liam Neeson) until, one day, the player awakes to discover that the father has vacated the vault and journeyed into the wasteland for an unknown reason. The vault overseer becomes suspicious that the player is the cause of the father’s disappearance, so the player decides to travel into the wasteland in search of their father. The player will run into organizations from previous games such as the Brotherhood of Steel (a group of tech coveting survivors), and the Enclave – an elitist and genocidal group from the United States Government.

4. Far Cry 2 (GameGuideDog.com has the walkthrough guide): Far Cry 2 is a first-person shooter game designed originally for Windows, but will be available on October 21, 2008 for PC, Xbox 360 and Playstation platforms. The game no longer entails the science fiction aspects of its predecessor; in fact, the setting is realistic. The game takes place in a small, imaginary, central-African nation that is in a state of civil war. The protagonist of the games in the past, Jack Carver is not featured in this game. In the sequel, the player will have an option of choosing nine different characters for play. Each character has its own unique look and story. All of the characters will be different types of mercenaries. Any playable character not chosen will become a non-player character throughout the game. The plot of the game is centered on the recent collapse of the nation’s government which leaves two factions trying to gain control. The United Front Liberation and Labor, and the Alliance for Popular Resistance are at war with one another. Both groups claim to have the interest of the people at heart but are both obviously corrupt. It is then revealed that the diamond minds have been completely depleted, leaving the people with nothing, causing even more drama amongst the people of the country. The player must find and liquidate “The Jackal” an arms dealer that has been selling weapons to both sides of the conflict. This goal is to be accomplished by any means necessary.

5. Gears of War 2 (GameGuideDog.com has the walkthrough guide): – Gears of War 2 is a third-person shooter game developed exclusively for the Xbox 360. At the end of the first game, there was a Lightmass Bomb; Gears of War 2 takes place six months after its detonation. The majority of the Locust Horde was destroyed. Following months of piece, Tollen and Montevado (two cities) disappear underground, thus causing the COG to believe the Locust has resurged. The players responsibility is to save the Jacinto Plateau, one of the only remaining safe harbors for humans, to do this one must take on a war with the Locust.

6. Lego Batman  (GameGuideDog.com has the walkthrough guide): Lego Batman was released for the PlayStation 3, Wii, Xbox 360, PlayStation 2, Nintendo DS, PlayStation Portable and Microsoft Windows. Lego Batman is Traveller’s Tales fifth shot at a Lego Game, and though the game should be perfected, it most definitely is not. It is still quirky. The puzzles don’t make sense, and it is still difficult to judge your jumps. Lego Batman is unique, however, because the story is not based off of a movie, or a comic book plot. The tale is basic- villains escape Arkham Asylum and Batman is responsible for hunting them down. Basically the whole point is breaking things, fighting, and getting rid of the bad guys. Throughout the games, you’ll have an opportunity to play in a vast array of scenarios and encounter a ton of characters. It’s a great simple mix, and a really fun, simple game to play.

7. Little Big Planet (GameGuideDog.com has the walkthrough guide): – Designed for the Playstation 3, Little Big Planet is a unique experience in that players learn about the powers that their characters have when interacting physically with the environment. There are many different obstacles to explore, items to collect, and different puzzles to solve that require not only mental ability, but also teamwork and collaboration. As players explore the game, their creative skills will begin to grow and they will be able to begin modifying their surroundings. All of the skills required of the game are acquired through play, so this game is very simple and user friendly.

8. Call of Duty World at War (GameGuideDog.com has the walkthrough guide): – Designed for play on your PC; Call of Duty World at War forces players into the awful, and ruthless chaotic world that was WWII combat, and also challenges them to survive the worst battles that led to the fall of the Axis powers.

His company gets a distress call from the USG Ishimura, a ship that destroys planets for the purpose of extracting valuable ore. When he thinks that a mechanical failure is the only issue, he goes to rendezvous with the ship to find that the ship has been overrun be Necromorphs, a flesh eating alien race. Isaac is then separated and must battle his way to safety.

This version of the game will allow users to create their own songs, not just perform the ones available on the game.

11. Left 4 Dead (GameGuideDog.com has the walkthrough guide):  – The goal of Left 4 Dead is an easy one – all you have to do is survive. You are lucky enough to be one of the few survivors of a new and highly dangerous strain of the rabies virus that has spread over the entire human population. It turns all humans into rabid and bloodthirsty zombies. Team work is necessary if you want to finish the game alive. Left 4 Dead is a first person multiplayer co-op survival horror shooter. Top Study Tips for Math

Conquer Math Phobia Now

If you are afraid of math, tell yourself that by the end of this semester you won’t be anymore. Math phobia is a widespread epidemic in our country, so if you suffer from it, you’re not alone. However, if you need to take a math class, you can do well — even if you have historically feared math. The first step towards doing well in math is to tell yourself that you can. Follow the tips below for studying, and eventually, you’ll begin to believe it.

To Do Well in Your Math Class, Go To Your Math Class

Just because you can cut class in college doesn’t mean that you should. Especially in math. Math is a subject that draws heavily on your visual learning abilities. You need to be able to watch the professor work out equations on the board. And if you’re not there, you can’t do that. Attending class is a great first step, but it’s not enough. Take notes on what the professor says and does, and when you get confused, put your hand up in the air and ask a question. You might be the only one with your hand up, but you’re not the only one with your question.

Attend Section As Well — Make Your TA Your New Best Friend

Most math courses are taught in large lecture formats that meet a couple of times a week. If your math class is like this, then you will also have section a couple of times a week — a smaller group meeting of students led by a TA, or teaching assistant to your class’s professor. If you are bashful about asking questions in the large crowd that is your lecture, you will feel more comfortable asking them here. You should not miss section because it offers a great opportunity for more personalized attention.

Practice, Practice, Practice

Before you get to section, you should do your best with the assignments that you have. If you run into problems with your problems, you can ask your TA about them. You should also review your notes from class and make sure that you understand everything that happened. Math is a discipline that builds on itself. You need to make sure you can master every step along the way so that you’ll be able to tackle the next ones as well.

The Most Effective Way to Treat Polluted Water Project for Students

Tackling an ecological or environmental science fair project is a good idea for students who want their projects to mean something. These projects, particularly ones that relate to local ecological problems, help to teach students about issues that impact their quality of life and they allow students to make a contribution towards solving the problem. One issue that impacts most local ecosystems is water pollution.

Hypothesis

In this free sample science fair project the treatment of water pollution is examined. In order to come up with a hypothesis background research was required on different ways to treat polluted water. After conducting this research two methodologies for treating water pollution were selected. The hypothesis that resulted is, “Natural enzymes are more effective at treating water pollution then simple settling pond treatment options.”

In this hypothesis the variable that will be measured will be the cleanliness of the treated water and the manipulated variable will be the treatment type.

Experiment

The control experiment for this science fair project will be focused on testing the effectiveness of a settling pond treatment methodology to clean polluted water. In this situation polluted water will refer to sewage water. The experiment will be set up to replicate what happens in a settling pond treatment plant. A student can use an inflatable swimming pool to replicate a settling pond. Sewage water can then be harvested and treated following what is normally done at a settling pond treatment plant.

If this is not possible, then the student can work with a local treatment plant to take samples of pre-treated sewage water and samples of treated sewage water.

The test experiment is going to focus on water pollution treatment methodologies that utilize enzymes as the cleaning agent. For this experiment the same amount of polluted water will need to be treated using the enzymes.

Data Collection

Collecting data for this science fair project will require extra care, particularly when handling sewage water. Latex gloves, goggles, aprons and possibly even rubber boots will be needed.

Samples will be taken from pre-treated water and from treated water in both experiments. Each sample will then be tested under a microscope. Particle counts and microbe counts will be taken. Other tests can be run that involve using litmus test strips or dye reactor tests. This supplemental data can add to the value of your science fair project.

Data Analysis

The analysis of the data will start by organizing all of the findings in a table. This will make extracting statistics like mode, median and mean from the data much easier to do. Students will then need to determine the improvement rates for each treatment method and the after the fact particle suspension rates and microbe counts for each test. These results can then be compared to see which method is more effective at cleaning polluted sewage water.

Conclusion

The conclusions that are drawn need to be backed up with both data collected by the student and by research findings drawn by other scientists. The student will also need to evaluate the validity of their data by examining the design of their experiment and determining if it had any flaws. Finally the student will need to make suggestions about what additional research needs to be conducted, such as comparing enzyme water treatment practices to charcoal filtration treatment practices.

I am an education professional and I want kids to know how fun science can be. In order to promote this goal I encourage all kids to explore science by learning to use student’s microscopes and by entering science fairs.

Travel Deals: “It’s a Garage Sale Out There!” Part II

Just when I thought we had hit bottom (travel deals, I mean), the rates are getting lower!  I have outlined the best deals I have seen through out the Caribbean, airfare sale and a special Tahiti deal that will blow your mind!

This is a MUST READ if you are thinking of taking the family on vacation between now and next Fall.

There are more kids stay free deals than ever seen before. I also notice the additional costs for upgrading to suites or having connecting rooms are being cut up to 60%!

Another change I notice is the increase in resort and cruise credits.
Cruise ships always made their real profit by what they sell on the ship such as alcohol, clothes, tours, etc. Now more than ever before, the cruise lines are offering up to $300 on board ship credit.

The trend for resorts to also offer credits is growing tremendously. Resort credit used to be something I saw in the low season or an infrequent special. Resort credit can go towards spa, tours, golf, drinks and food if it is not an all inclusive, or simply fun nick knacks.

When you see these credits in the deal, always check what it is for and make sure it is valid on the dates you are going. Once verifies, just think of it like someone handed you cash towards spending money on your vacation.

Here are a few very new amazing deals for families this Spring, Summer & Fall!  Some of these deals have not even been published yet, so take advantage of them and happy traveling!

Caribbean Family Vacations:
I had to check this one a few times because it looked to good to be true, but it is correct:

CheapCaribbean’s 48 hour sale, all inclusive three star resorts for $48 per person, per night. Yes, all inclusive – meals, taxes, drinks, activities, kids activities, etc…many of these resorts allow children under 12 free, so all you have to pay is the airfare!  I would compare the resorts on sale to a nice Holiday Inn, this resort is midway between deluxe and moderate. The deal is for travel from May – June 30, a perfect family trip before summer activites begin.

Check out all of the $48 deals for families! This sale ends 11:59pm Friday, April 3.

Apple Vacations’ Spring Savings Sale! If you do not see your gateway, they may still have it, using the booking engine on the top of the page. It is really cool as you can specify your needs when you begin (airport, amount of people, budget, amount of nights, etc) and that will reflect every deal you click on. This eliminates the irritating task of having to fill out your information over and over to shop around. The lead pricing is $459+: 60% off: All-Inclusives w/Air.

Apple Vacations charters their own planes, so the airfare is very reasonable. The add-ons for different gateways are reasonable as well.  $499 per adult for 3 nights all inclusive five-star resort including airfare, two kids under 12 stay and fly for $199 per child!  Not interested in the all inclusive, ok, there are resort deals for $599.99 including 7 night resort stay and airfare!

Future Vacations is running my favorite kind of deal – up to $300 in Spa and/or Golf Credit! Ahhh, I would have no problem using up that Spa Credit! The resort is Cancun Palace, a Four-Star beachfront, all inclusive. I stayed here years ago and it was ok, a bit run down and a little big for my taste. Now the resort has had a fuill make over, ready to impress.

The make over includes a redesigned pool, modern spa, five fine dining restaurants, six bars including two swim up bars and a Kid’s Club. All rooms have a double Jacuzzi, balcony, first class amenities and 24 hr room service. 24hr room service at an all inclusive is the coolest – you can feed the midnight munchy attack without having to worry about exhorbanent hotel bills!

BookIt.com, one of the best web sites I have found for extra amenities and all sorts of goodies is running a Dominic Republic All Inclusive Sale. All Inclusive start from $59 per person, per night with tons of kids free deals, room upgrades and more.

Airfare sale:

American Airlines has a major sale domestic right now with travel through August 14. Airfares are starting at $49 each way. What is extra special about this sale is tround trip is not required. So if you want to fly somewhere and go back rfom a different gateway, you dont have to deal with all of the extra charges. For a listing of all the gateways and prices, click here.

The top value of the week (drum roll…)

Tahiti – the trip of a life time, suddenly became more affordable. Air Tahiti Nui is also offering slashed rates and free air from Los Angeles for kids! Add-ons from other cities are reasonable.  The feature sale is $1698/per adult+: Air, Breakfast & 5nts Manava Suite Resort Tahiti- there are other options, more nights – this is the lead rate (best deal) and it is specifically designed for family vacations!

Happy traveling!

You can view all of these deals by clicking here
